Who needs an EICR?

  • Landlords – a legal requirement at least every 5 years for private rented homes. Landlord certificates.
  • Businesses – to meet your duty to keep employees and visitors safe.
  • Homeowners – recommended at least every 10 years, and when buying a property.

What happens during an EICR?

Our electricians inspect and test the fixed electrical installation, checking the wiring, protective devices, earthing and bonding, sockets, switches and fittings. Afterwards you’ll receive a clear written report, with any issues coded and explained.

How often do I need an EICR?

Owner-occupied homes: at least every 10 years. Rented homes: at least every 5 years. Businesses: typically every 5 years, or more often for some types of premises.

How long does it take?

An average three-bedroom house usually takes around three to four hours. Commercial premises vary with size.

What do the codes on the report mean?

C1 means danger present, C2 means potentially dangerous, C3 means improvement recommended and FI means further investigation is needed.
