Whether you’ve moved into an older property or your existing wiring is simply past its best, a full or partial rewire brings your electrics up to today’s standards. It should only ever be carried out by a qualified, registered electrician, which is exactly what you get with PES Electrical Services.

As a NAPIT registered electrical contractor with over 14 years’ experience, we carry out every house rewire to the current wiring regulations (BS 7671), then test and certify the installation before we hand it back to you.

How a rewire works

A full rewire usually happens in two stages:

First fix – before any plastering, we remove the old wiring and run new cables to every socket, switch and light, ideally alongside other trades such as plumbing and heating.
Second fix – once the walls are plastered, we fit sockets, switches, light fittings, fans, cookers and showers, then test every circuit.

When the work is finished you’ll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate showing the new installation has been tested and is safe to use.

Full or partial rewire?

Depending on the condition of your current wiring, you may only need a partial rewire, for example in an extension, kitchen or loft conversion. If you’re unsure, we can carry out an electrical inspection (EICR) first and advise you honestly on what’s needed.

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Signs include an old fuse box, rubber or fabric-covered cables, scorch marks on sockets, lights that flicker and not enough sockets for modern living. The surest way to know is an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), which tells you the condition of the wiring and what, if anything, needs doing.

How long does a full rewire take?

As a guide, an unoccupied three-bedroom house usually takes around five to seven working days. Every property is different, so we’ll give you a clearer idea after the survey. Lead times vary. An anticipated start date will be provided when the quotation is accepted.

Can I stay in the house during a rewire?

It’s possible, but a rewire is disruptive because floors are lifted and walls are chased. Many customers rewire before moving in or during a renovation. We’ll talk you through the options at the survey.

Do you need to replace the consumer unit too?

Often, yes. A rewire is the ideal time to fit a modern consumer unit with up-to-date protection. More about consumer unit replacement.

Yes. Every rewire is tested on completion and you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate, plus our 12-month workmanship guarantee.
